Introduction to Microsoft Power BI Basics FAQs

Power BI is a desktop application that you can download from Microsoft. Power BI enables you to connect to your data sources, visualize the data and publish your results to either the Power BI Server or the online Software as a Service (SaaS) called Power BI Service. There are also Power BI mobile apps for iOS and Android devices.

Power BI can extract data from multiple data sources, such as a database, data warehouse, excel, text files, and many, many others. The different sources of data can be combined in a Data Model and consumed as though it is a single data source. You can create visualizations and reports on the data and save them to the Power BI Service, where you can create Dashboards from the reports. These dashboards can then be shared with others. The Power BI Service can also keep your data up to date automatically.

No, all software and licenses are supplied as part of the Training Course, which also means you are not affecting your organization's Power BI Infrastructure. All Reports and Dashboards will be created in the Training System, which is an implementation of a live system. The Power BI license is available to you for a period after the course has finished.
