This Certified Scrum Developer® course is designed for product developers who are working in a Scrum environment. The goal is to expose students to the most important tools and techniques in the Agile approach needed to build good products in the iterative and incremental fashion that Scrum requires. These ideas are central to the entire field of agile product development.

In this course, you will learn how to:

  • Use Integrated case study to initiate (visioning), develop product roadmap, user stories, and the product.
  • Develop collaboration and team dynamics.
  • Work successfully in a Scrum team that focuses on creating products.

  • Encourage the understanding and adoption of agile engineering practices within your team.

Certification Information

Show that you understand Scrum and agile development by passing an assessment given by your teacher. After you finish the course, you'll receive a notification to accept your CSD® license, and your certification will be added to your Scrum Alliance membership profile.

This certification is good for two years. To keep your certification, you need to earn Scrum Education Units® (SEUs) and renew your certification every two years.

Certified Scrum Developer® Training Outline

  • Practice utilizing a sprint backlog
  • Describe the responsibility of the Scrum team for turning PBIs in the sprint backlog into increments of value
  • Organize and demonstrate the daily Scrum
  • List at least three attributes of PBIs
  • Give at least three examples of how a Scrum team will inspect and adapt PBIs during product backlog refinement
  • Discuss at least five elements of a definition of done that ensure the increment provides information that enhances transparency and focus against which progress can be measured
  • Explain at least three differences between a working group and a team
  • Discuss at least three attributes of effective teams
  • Demonstrate "working together as a team"
  • Describe at least three benefits of developers interacting directly with customers and users
  • Restate at least three ways a Scrum team may collaborate with stakeholders, customers, and/or users during the sprint
  • Outline at least three benefits of technical excellence
  • Explain at least one design practice on an agile team
  • List at least three principles of architecture in an agile environment

  • Describe at least three benefits of refactoring to an agile software development effort
  • Explain test-first as a design and development approach and list three benefits.

Certified Scrum Developer FAQs

The CSD training is a program that provides software development professionals with a deep understanding of agile software development and the Scrum framework. It is offered by the Scrum Alliance, a non-profit organization that supports the adoption and effective use of Scrum.

This course is beneficial for current and aspiring Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and members of software development teams who want to work successfully with or as part of a Scrum team creating value-added products.

The course is also beneficial as a team training exercise to ensure all members are aligned towards creating products that add value to the customers.

To earn a CSD®, you are required to attend at least two days of formal training taught by a Scrum Alliance-approved CSD Educator. During your CSD® course, you must demonstrate an understanding of Scrum and agile development practices by passing a CSD® assessment provided by your educator.

The assessment may be an exam administered by the educator to test your knowledge, or it may be an active, classroom-based assessment. When a CSD educator uploads a student’s information into our system, they are recommending the student for certification.

Once you complete the course, you will receive a notification to accept your CSD® license, and the CSD® certification will be added to your Scrum Alliance membership profile. Your certification is valid for two years. You can maintain your CSD® certification by earning Scrum Education Units® (SEUs) and renewing your certification every two years.

Certification candidates and existing credential holders are responsible for reporting all Continuing Certification Requirements Program (CCR) activities to PMI (Project Management Institute). To report the completion of a Learning Tree course, you can use the Online PDU (Professional Development Units) Resources System.
